Manga Illustration Classes

For the past few years I have been running several workshops throughout New York City to teach young people how to draw Manga, through a special program set up by the New York Public Library.

For those interested in these workshops you can sign up directly at the NYPL branch where scheduled, which varies throughout the 3 boroughs covered by their branches (Staten Island, The Bronx and Manahattan), and just come as you are. All materials are provided for free.

I have also compiled two brief tutorials found on this site for those interested in understanding the basics of both Shonen and Shojo Manga and/or would like to start practicing at home, and for those simply unable to attend the workshops. I am confident that they will come in very handy even for those with illustration experience.

Manga as well as education have always been my passion. I enjoy educating others so they too, can use this popular form of Japanese culture to express their artistic talent. Manga or comics have also served many young people in becoming more confident reading about complex topics such as history and social sciences, as well as becoming interested in subjects that many students have a hard time grasping due to the complex language. Comics have made it easier and more fun to memorize these in many instances.

In some school programs, comic strips and books have been used to raise the reading level of students struggling in this area. And because Manga is published for every subject and interest, there's no limit to the comic books each reader can endulge in.

As a licensed art teacher and professional Manga artist I take pride in teaching and have done so even on a volunteer basis, simply because of my passion for this type of entertainment and to see others enjoy what I do as well; for it is a gift that I can pass on to others. For those interested in my services as educator, for both temporary or long term please refer to my contact page for additional details.
