Shonen Manga is one that's traditionally marketed to the young male population up to the age of 18. This does not mean that readers of the opposite sex do not enjoy reading it just as much. In fact, among the female readership, this type of comics is very popular, even in the US where the Manga market is pretty new.
These stories usually focus on various topics that are deemed as of male interest such as action, sports, violence, mystery, horror, romance, etc. but from the male protagonist's view.
And though Shonen manga is not as finely detailed as Shojo manga, it requires a different type of focus, mainly on the action scenes where the posing of the human body is key to bring out the story.
The quality and size of the paper used for Shonen manga is also different than other types of mangas. You will notice that the size of the paper is much smaller and the quality a bit lower than those of adult comics.
Many of the illustrations found in these stories are life-like where the characters as well as the background images are scaled according to its realistic look.
In the following instructional tutorial, I have compiled several images that will take you, step by step, through a simple process of creating your first panel of Shonen style illustration.
